I had been riding a motorcycle for some years and had found it very convenient getting around to places in the City. A motorcyclewas very economical from the gas consumption point of view, and, when necessary, getting a new motorcyclewas within my financial means. But, to travel out of town along the highways, it certainlywould bebetter by car. I knew all along that I must get a driver's license for doing that.

To get started for getting the license, I was advised to attend a driving lessons course at a reputable centre.I needed to find the place where a coursewas offered at the time convenient for me. With my full time job in the day time, Icould only attend the course in the evenings.

Luckily, there was a place where a driving course was offered in the evening time. And, the place was just twenty minutes by motorcycle from my house.

I was very happy attending the course. The driving instruction started from the very basics. Rules and regulations that must be observed were covered in detail in the instruction booklet. The instructor was excellent too, going through the course in detail. It was amazing how I had been riding motorcycle without paying attention to the road signs at times. Of Course, I had not attended any formal course and had not had any instruction materials related to riding motorcycle. I realized then that I should have attended a formal course for motorcycle too.

After completing the theoretical part of driving, I continued to take the driving lessons. That took about three weeks. The instructor was quite happy with the progress I made, and was very confident that I would do well at the driving test. That gave me the confidence too for going ahead taking the driving tests, theory and practical driving.

Though a bit nervous, I did very well at the tests. The officer at the Traffic Department was quite impressed with my performance at the tests, and gave me a big congratulation for doing so well. I was surprised with myself too.

I was then finally all set to travel around in town and out of town driving my own car. From that time on, I rarely used the motorcycle.
