I remember when I turned seventeen and I was given the birthday present I had always dreamt about. What was the present you may ask? Well as I was turning seventeen I would be old enough to learn to drive and to take my driving test and so my parents gave me some driving lessons. They told me that had looked at a lot of different driving instructors and they had decided on an instructor that my father personally knew and who had a good reputation for helping young drivers pass their driving test first time.

I still remember the first time I entered the driving instructor's car, I was shaking with nerves and I thought to myself there was no way I would ever pass my driving test if this was the way I was going to be. just getting into a car. However, the driving instructor soon put me at ease and said most young drivers felt exactly the same way the first time that they ever set foot in a car.

I could soon see why this particular driving instructor had a good reputation for helping young drivers, as he was always calm, even when I made silly errors, and was very encouraging. Basically he was a very nice man.

After a dozen lessons or so, and having mastered things like the hill start, three point turn and reversing around a corner, he decided that I was ready to take my driving test. I thought it would be too early for me to try and pass my test, but he insisted that I was and was very confident that I would pass. So on his advice I applied to take my test.

I only had to wait a couple of weeks before I got confirmation of my driving test. On the day itself my driving instructor took me out for a two hour pre-test lesson to iron out any last minute kinks or worries that I may have. He gave me a last minute pep talk, telling me to remain calm and if I do happen to make a mistake, just forget about it and carry on.

So with some trepidation I took my driving test and during it I managed to convince myself that I had made many mistakes and that there was no way I was going to pass my test. However, when I finished, the examiner told me that I had passed with flying colours. I was delighted, as were my parents. As a way of saying congratulations they bought me first ever car as well.
